Gifu alabaster floor lamp

Gifu Floor lamp

Gifu is a city located in the namesake prefecture, in central Japan, and is part of the Chubu region. Known for its long artisanal and cultural tradition, Gifu has a history that dates back centuries and played an important role both economically and strategically during the samurai period. It is famous for the production of paper lanterns (called “Gifu Chōchin”), made with rice paper and a bamboo frame. The idea behind this collection is based on the surprising similarities between worked alabaster and the rice paper typical of lanterns: both materials share delicate tones and a light, refined texture.
